Diagnostic products developer Akers Biosciences Inc says that 2010 revenues are going to be 85% higher than originally expected and the January order book is strong.
An order received just before the end of the year added $1.5m. To put that into context, Akers generated revenue of $713,000in the first half of the year. Akers always said that the year would be second half weighted but the shipment of 90% of the Tri-Cholesterol “Check” tests that were in the order at the end of the year has given the figures a significant boost..
Sales of PIFA Heparin/PF4 Rapid Assay grew by 37%
Sales of the BreathScan disposable alcohol detectors picked up in 2010 as initial orders have been received in South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and the UK. These are helping to make up for declining orders from the US military.
New products include the Breath Ketone “Check” test for diabetes. Ketones are acids that build up in the blood when the body doesn’t have enough insulin. The BreathPulmo Health “Check” product line is being widened to include lung cancer and pulmonary conditions.
At 6.75p a share, up 1.125p on the day, Akers is valued at £7.74m. The share price had recently hit a 12 month low of 5.25p.
