Healthcare software developer Avia Health Informatics has launched its Odyssey MobileAssess software range.

The first product is Odyssey MarineAssess, which is aimed at cargo shipping companies. By assessing the illness or injury of a crew member the ship’s captain may be able to avoid turning the ship round and heading back to port. Every day the ship is off course it can cost the shipping company around £20,000, so buying the software could save a lot of money.

The symptoms of an illness are input into the software and it assesses whether or not the ailment can be treated on the ship.

Avia raised £200,000 at 60p a share at the end of June. Part of this cash is going on the completion of the new mobile software as well as other projects.

Avia has won a number of contracts this year. Southern Area Urgent Care Services agreed a one year contract for clinical decision support software in January. That was followed by Nottingham Emergency Medical Services announcing that it would use two more of Avia’s software products.

Avia has also made the first US and Australian sales of its Odyssey TeleAssess software, which is used by out of hours doctors services and GP surgeries.

At 52.5p a share, Avia is valued at £2.77m.
