Upmarket kitchens installer John Lewis of Hungerford says trading conditions were tough over the Christmas period.

There was a significant reduction in like-for-like sales over Christmas but there are signs of an improving order book. Management assumes that trading will continue to be tough and it is cutting costs. John Lewis of Hungerford believes that it is in a good position to take advantage of any consumer recovery, whenever that happens.

The company increased its revenues from £5.36m to £6.22m in the year to August 2011 and this helped it move from a loss of £150,000 to a profit of £136,000. Excluding share-based payments, the profit jumped from £4,000 to £160,000. Net cash was £181,000 at the end of August 2011.

At 0.8p a share, John Lewis of Hungerford is valued at £1.49m.
