Slater Investments has taken a 3.7% stake in instrumentation supplier Judges Scientific.

The purchase was made on the day of Judges’ trading statement last Friday when the company said that its underlying figures will “show significant year-on-year progress” in the first half of 2010.

Slater Investments owns 2.6% of Judges directly and 1.1% indirectly. The 150,000 shares appear to have been acquired for 224.5p each.

Analysts expect profits of around £1.9m this year, up from £1.58m in 2009.

At 225p a share, Judges is valued at £9.39m. The shares are trading on just over seven times prospective 2010 earnings. The prospective yield is 2.4%.
