Deben, a 51%-owned subsidiary of scientific instruments supplier Judges Scientific, has acquired KE Developments.

Deben and KE both design and manufacture accessories for electron microscopy and KE’s operations will be transferred to Deben’s factory in Suffolk. That should happen within three months of completion of the acquisition. Deben is paying £40,000 for fixed assets and up to £300,000 for goodwill spread over five years based on future sales.

KE broke even on sales of £975,000 in the year to June 2011. Output has been falling in recent years but Judges believes that the acquisition will be earnings enhancing once production is transferred to Suffolk.

Judges paid £3.26m bought 51% of Deben one year ago. Gary and Tracey Edwards own the other 49%.

At 457.5p a share, Judges is valued at £19.6m.
