Portmeirion Group is buying famous old ceramics brands Royal Worcester and Spode.

The Stoke-on-Trent-based tableware and giftware producer is paying £3.2m for the intellectual property and stock of the brands from the administrator of their former owner.

Royal Worcester and Spode should generate £7m in the remaining eight months of 2008 and £12m in a full year. Portmeirion hopes to reinvigorate the brands and build on those revenues.

At 192.5p a share, up 22.5p on the day, Portmeirion is valued at £19.1m.
