Reflec’s security business has moved into profit but the older businesses have found trading difficult.

Security will become the most important part of the group over time and Reflec is looking to make acquisitions in this sector. Admittedly the interim profit of £12,000 on sales of £226,000 was before central overheads.

Turnover and profits fell for the rest of the group. The reflective powders business is still the biggest profit contributor but its profit fell 28% to £201,000. The visual communications business is about to launch new products and its profit dipped 10% to £164,000. Also, £74,000 of development spending was capitalised.

Overall turnover fell from £2.54m to £2.25m in the six months to August 2006, while the profit halved from £207,000 to £101,000.

Although the results were poor they were better than the second half of last year when losses from the security business meant that the profit was £18,000.

The shares slumped 5p to 14p.
