Chinese natural medicine ingredients supplier Taihua says sales of its main products improved in the second half but they were still well down in 2009.

Taihua sold 11,555 grams of Paclitaxel, a decrease of 31% compared to 2008, and 5,190 grams of Homoharringtonine, a decrease of 43% compared to 2008. Prices held steady in the second half. Other revenues were 9% lower.

This means that profits will be lower than in 2008. Taihua reported a 2008 profit of RMB16.4m on revenues of RMB42.3m, although that was well down on the profit of RMB39.8m and revenues of RMB71.8m in 2007.

However, 2009 was the reverse of 2008. Nearly all 2008 profit and more than two-thirds of revenues were in the first half.

Taihua still hopes to conclude deals with potential European distributors of Paclitaxel in March.

At 10.25p a share, down 1p on the day, Taihua is valued at £8.37m.
