Work Group swung from profit to a loss of £161,000 in 2009.

The recruitment services company reported a sharp fall in revenues from £35.7m to £22.1m. Net fee income fell from £14.9m to £10.2m. Cost reductions helped to minimise the reported loss. The decline in profit was down to the communications division and higher central costs.

The core talent management division is already starting to improve its performance and its profit contribution was flat in 2009.

Net cash is £2.3m while, at 16.5p a share, the company is valued at £4.72m.

Work is expected to make a profit of £300,000 in 2010, although cash is expected to fall back as working capital requirements increase.

Jon Moulton owns 17.9% of Work.
