XCounter AB and Artemis Imaging are developing a 3D breast CT system.
Stockholm-based XCounter is developing technology for the capture of digital x-ray images using low dosages of radiation. This technology will help to increase the quality of the image in the 3D breast CT system. One detector has been ordered for evaluation.
The first clinical evaluation of the XC Mammo – 3T has produced positive results. This is the first dedicated 3D system for breast cancer detection. The study was carried out at Danderyd University Hospital and the Karolinska University Hospital. It compared the 3D system with 2D digital mammography. The XCounter system produces clearer images and it is easier to detect tumours. Patients also found the examination more comfortable.
XCounter has changed the terms of a call option for the shares it does not own in AJAT. XCounter’s current stake is 49.8%. It had the right to increase that to 86.37% within 12-18 months but the call option has been changed to include all the shares it does not own. The seller will receive 4.4% of XCounter’s share capital in return for the AJAT stake. Finland-based AJAT manufactures radiation detection and imaging devices for the medical and industrial sectors.
At 15p a share, XCounter is valued at £6.53m.
