Biomass supplier Active Energy Group has appointed Landkom International founder Richard Spinks as its new chief executive.

Ukraine-based Spinks is a representative of Eastwood Holdings, which owns 17% of Active Energy.

Gavin Little remains chairman of Active Energy but he will no longer be an executive.

Accident prone Active Energy needs to show that it can make a success of its wood chip business in the Ukraine and Spinks has the local knowledge to help.

Ukrainian agricultural commodities producer Landkom raised £54m at 52p a share when it joined Aim in November 2007 but the financial crisis in 2008 meant that Landkom could not expand as originally planned. Spinks left Landkom in August 2009. At the end of 2011, Landkom recommended an all share offer from Alpcot Agro of one Alpcot share for every 22.16 Landkom shares. That valued Landkom at £11.4m (2.63p a share) when it was announced.

At 1.62p a share, Active Energy is valued at £3.86m.
