Alkane Energy has increased its generating capacity.

The coal mine methane and electricity producer has added a new generator at Mansfield and another at Warsop. A fourth generator will be installed in Bevercotes in June after silencers have been fitted to existing plant.

The latest addition to its generating capacity is selling its electricity for £55/MWh for the next six months. The average electricity price achieved by the group last year was £42/MWh. Many of the existing generating plants have signed agreements at prices much higher than last year.

The combined generation and gas capacity has been increased to 20MW. Electricity sales in the first four months of 2008 totalled 27 million kWh.

Alkane will apply for more licences in the 13th Round of onshore licensing later in the year.

The shares were 1.25p higher at 17.25p.
