Aim adviser Ambrian Capital says that a strong start to the year means that profits in the first five months of 2009 are ahead of last year.

The corporate finance and equities business has enjoyed a pick up in activity this year. The recovery in the share prices of natural resources companies has helped. Ambrian is advising on M&A business and completed several fund raisings for mining and cleantech companies.

The commodities business is benefiting from the rally in the copper price helped by Chinese metal imports. These imports are declining from their peak levels but Ambrian believes it is still in a strong position. There was £47.1m of cash in the balance sheet at the end of 2008.

At 27.75p a share, Ambrian is valued at £29.7m.

Fox-Pitt Kelton was appointed Ambrian’s nominated adviser and broker during May.
