Zambian tailings processing projects developer Berkeley Mineral Resources has appointed a new auditor and expects to announce its figures for the year to June 2014 by early March.

The shares will remain suspended until then. Crowe Clark Whitehill has been helping in the investigation of the valuation of £4.3m assets and has been taken on as auditor. Total write-downs of between £10m and £12m are anticipated.

Jeremy Hawke has been appointed as a director and he will be in charge of operations. Norman Lott will be part-time finance director. Overheads have been reduced but there are redundancy costs as a result.

This month bulk sample tests of the Kabwe washplant tailings will be undertaken in order to confirm the recovery levels and grade of zinc/lead in the concentrate. There are also plans to do test work on the leach residue tailings.

Berkeley is assessing the potential to generate some cash from its copper interests.
