Mark Cook has been appointed as the new chief executive of surveillance technology supplier Datong.

He founded (in November 2003) and ran Persides Ltd, whose main markets were in defence, aerospace, nuclear and security. Before that he ran an division of Thales. He started his career at GEC Avionics in Rochester.

Bristol-based Persides went into administration in September 2010 and it was dissolved on 1 December 2011. Quadnetics bought part of the business for £260,000. The underlying business is still going (www.persides.com).

At 21p a share, Datong is valued at £2.91m.
