Fashion brand Hardy Amies has signed agreements that could nearly double its revenues from Japan.

The three year agreements with 10 sub-licensees should generate £850,000 a year at current exchange rates. Hardy Amies generated £453,000 from Japan in 2006 – more than one-third of total revenues. The trademark rights for the Hardy Amies brand in Japan will now be owned by the company. The shares jumped 2.5p to 4.25p on the news.

The company has also set up a joint venture to develop retail outlets in China. Its partner is Asian retailer Aussino. Each partner will invest £500,000 in the joint venture. The first stores should be opened next year.

A Hardy Amies store opened in Edinburgh on 18 October.
