Instrumentation supplier Judges Scientific says that 2009 profits will be at the higher end of expectations.

Judges had already said that profits would exceed expectations before Christmas. Shore Capital upgraded to a 2009 profit of £1.4m.

A strong December means that the order book represents 11 weeks of sales – a creditable figure if lower than the bumper order book at the end of 2008.

The share price rose 16p to 137.5p, which values Judges at £5.56m. The shares are trading on less than six times 2009 estimated earnings. Earnings per share could be flat this year but they could still be up to one-fifth higher than 2008.

Judges intends to buyback 300,000 shares – 7.4% of the share capital. This should help to enhance earnings per share.
