Google has lifted the penalty on two of Media Corporation’s web portals.

Both gambling.com and creditcardexpert.co.uk lost more than half their gross profit contribution following the imposition of the penalty which affects the ranking of the sites in Google searches. The penalty was imposed in 2007.

Media Corp says that it does not know why the penalty was imposed. This shows how dependent Media Corp is on its Google ranking.

The lifting of the penalty on 16 October 2009 will not have an affect on the figures for the year to September 2009. It will be helpful in the proposed relaunch of gambling.com. Media Corp also plans to acquire online gaming businesses.

Shares in Media Corp jumped 0.58p to 2.9p each, which values the company at £7.69m. The share price has nearly trebled in the past week.
