Mercury Recycling

Fluorescent tubing recycler Mercury Recycling has been hit by price reductions even though volumes were reasonable in the first half of 2011.

Revenues were flat at £1.37m and profit fell from £158,000 to £77,000, although that was after £72,000 of one-off costs. Mercury Recycling has spent an additional £34,000 getting its premises ready for battery recycling and £38,000 on the costs of an acquisition that did not go ahead. The battery business should be up and running before the end of 2011.

The core market remains uncertain. The company is participating in talks about the implementation of new recycling regulations in 2013. This should increase lamp recycling volumes and make the current requirements fairer.

At 8.75p a share, Mercury Recycling is valued at £3.13m. Net cash was £236,000 at the end of June 2011.

Mercury Recycling is investigating possible investments in the natural resources sector.
