Like-for-like growth was 5%. Underlying pre-tax profit will be £1m.

Omega produces diagnostic tests for allergies, food intolerance and infectious diseases. The main growth came from the allergy business, which was expanded benefited from a full year contribution from the Allergopharma in vitro diagnostics business acquired the previous year. Exports sales were disappointing.

Omega continues to develop an automated allergy system using Immunodiagnostic Systems’ iSYS machine. The analysis of six allergens has been successful and a further 12 are due to begin an optimisation phase at the end of April. The plan is to launch a range of 40-50 allergens by the end of March 2013.

Management believes that there is potential international growth for the food intolerance products and a new international business development director will develop new partnerships.

Omega plans to licence-in a new technology which could be used for key high prevalence diseases, which could return this division to growth.

The full year figures will be published on 2 July.
