Prime People

Construction professionals recruiter Prime People is paying a 2p a share interim dividend in lieu of a final dividend for the year to March 2010.

The dividend will be paid on 31 March and the shares go ex-dividend one week earlier. This means that it will be paid before the new tax year when income tax rates rise.

This sparked a 5p rise in the share price to 38.5p, which values Prime People at £4.6m.

It is nearly two years since Prime People paid a final dividend of 2.4p a share. The total dividend for that year was 3.75p a share.

Prime People lost money in the first half but said that trading was stabilising. Management had said that it would consider a final dividend. Trading has been in line with expectations and cost cutting has helped the company return to profit in the second half.

The second half profit is large enough to more than wipe out the first half loss of £162,000.

The full year figures will be announced in early June.
