Sports nutrition products supplier Science in Sport says that first half revenues were nearly one-fifth higher and the second half should be better.
In the six months to June 2015, there was a 19% increase in revenues to £5.24m, compared with the pro forma figure for the corresponding period. Science in Sport is selling more online – both itself and through other retailers. International sales are also growing. The product range is being widened and a protein powder range was launched earlier this year.
In the full year, revenues are expected to grow to £9.6m but the business will continue to make a loss. The company’s factory has capacity to generate revenues of £28m.
The sports nutrition market is estimated to be growing at 11% a year.
The share price has slipped back in the past six months but it recovered 2.5p to 68p after the trading statement. Science in Sport is valued at £17.5m. Downing recently took its stake above 21%.
The interim figures will be published on 24 September.
