Seeing Machines has secured its second contract with a mining company this week.

BHP Billiton has signed a contract to acquire Driver State Sensor monitoring equipment for the Navajo mine in New Mexico. The DSS equipment will be installed in the haul truck fleet and other vehicles at the coal mine.

Seeing Machines designs integrated software and digital camera technology that tracks facial movement and reactions. DSS systems are devices fitted in vehicles to assess driver distraction and drowsiness.

The BHP Billiton contract is even larger than the one for the Grasberg mine in Indonesia. There is scope for more of BHP Billiton’s 50 plus mines to take up the DSS monitoring equipment.

Seeing Machines is no longer expected to make a profit in the year to June 2010 but a profit of £1.2m is forecast for 2010-11.

Shares in Seeing Machines rose by one-third to 4p each, which values the company at £12.5m.
