Fourth quarter sales improved significantly at Shieldtech but it still made a loss last year.

The body armour supplier says that government tinkering with ballistic measurement standards led to delays in sales to the police in the UK. Orders didn’t start to come through until the final quarter. Four police forces ordered £1.6m of equipment and £600,000 worth was delivered in the three months to June 2008.

Sales for the year to June 2008 still slumped from £11.5m to £6m and Shieldtech expects to report an operating loss of £700,000.

The order book is currently worth £3.75m.

The shares rose 1p to 14.5p, valuing Shieldtech at £7.65m.
