Engineer Widney lost £1.83m in the year to September 2007 but its continuing operations were profitable.

Widney has withdrawn from the manufacture of cabs for tractors and construction vehicles and automotive press tools. It had planned to sell Widney Pressings but the sale fell through. Continuing activities increased their operating profit from £818,000 to £940,000 on turnover of £32.8m.

Net debt was reduced from £10.2m to £2.3m. Widney is paying a 0.5p a share final dividend making a total of 1p for the year.

The shares rose 0.75p to 12.75p.
