The board of Worthington Nicholls says that it hopes to announce its proposed candidate for the post of chief executive prior to the EGM that has been requisitioned.

A permanent finance director will be appointed after the chief executive is appointed.

The date of the air conditioning installer’s EGM hasn’t been set yet but the latest it will be is early December. Shareholders owning nearly 15% of the company are backing the requisition. The board says it is also considering alternative options but hasn’t received any firm merger or acquisition proposal. Manchester-based ID Support Services is said to be interested in reversing into Worthington Nicholls as a way of gaining an Aim quotation.

The existing directors met one of the proposed new directors, former Revenue Assurance Services boss Simon Beart, at the end of August and in early October. They offered him the chance to become a candidate for the chief executive job before the EGM was requisitioned and say that they are willing to continue discussions with him.

The shares edged up 1p to 22.5p on the morning of the announcement.
