Capital Ideas was originally a shell called Leisure Ventures. It acquired a sports coaching holidays business but lack of demand from the US meant it performed poorly and it was sold in August 2003. The company then began to provide pre-IPO investments for small companies and changed its name to Capital Ideas in September 2005. It has a portfolio of these investments which it tends to sell on to private investors.
