Dublin-based Conroy was formed in 1995 and demerged its Finland diamond interests under the name Karelian Diamonds in July 2004 - on the basis of one Karelian share for every six Conroy shares. This enabled Conroy to focus on exploring for gold in the Longford-Down Massif in Ireland. Its exploration area covers 600 square miles and covers parts of Armagh in Northern Ireland as well as the Republic of Ireland. It is also exploring for gold in Finland.
