Overview

SPI Lasers has developed lasers based on optical fibre technology. Optical fibre lasers are thought to have better performance and energy efficiency than traditional laser technology. They are also smaller and don't require as much maintenance. All this means that the lasers can be used in new markets. There are currently three main market sectors: micro, marking and medical aesthetics. Micro applications include electronic stencil cutting, disk drive arm spot welding, automotive plastics welding, medical device welding and semiconductor inspection tools. Marking lasers are used for component marking and flash memory repair. The medical aesthetics market is still in its infancy. Anti-wrinkle treatments are one use.
