Blavod Extreme Spirits is licensing premium vodka brand Diva from Shetland Spirit Company Ltd, which is in administration
This is the fourth drink that Blavod has licensed from SSC.
Blavod will pay 35% of the net brand contribution after all promotional expenditure to SSC for a period of four years. Blavod can acquire the trademark at the end of the period for £1.
Diva is fully developed and production and sales will begin in 2009. “Each bottle contains a column of 54 Swarovski crystals” – what ever that means.
In May 2008 when Blavod announced that it had acquired the right to use the intellectual property rights of Blackwood’s Gin and Blackwood’s Vodka from SSC.
Blavod had a distribution deal with SSC before it went into administration. It paid £300,000 for the rights to Blackwood’s Gin and Blackwood’s Vodka, and will pay a further £300,000 over the next 12 months. From year 3 to the end of year 7 Blavod will pay SSC 35% of net profits before tax attributable to the drinks. Blavod then has the option to acquire all the rights for £1.
A deal was signed with SSC at the end of July 2008 to licence Jago’s Vodka cream liqueur. The deal is pretty much the the same as for ‘Diva’.
At 3.375p a share, Blavod is valued at £2.96m. Blavod had net cash of £502,000 at the end of March 2008. Since then the £300,000 will have been paid out for Blackwood’s Gin and Vodka.
