SPI Lasers is moving into the solar energy sector.
It has won orders from five customers that make machines that manufacture solar cells. This is still a minor area for the group but it could grow rapidly.
SPI says that its 2007 revenues will be slightly below expectations but profits will be in line with expectations.
Contracts worth more than $6m have been secured for 2008. That is roughly one-eighth of the forecast turnover for 2008. These contracts could generate an additional $3m. Another framework agreement could be worth $1.5m.
