One week after it announced that it had started shipments of HalcyonPro intelligent wireless lighting systems PhotonStar LED Group has admitted that it will lose money this year.
Sales of fixed white lighting products will be lower than expected in 2014 because several large contracts will be delayed until next year. There is also pressure on the margins of light engines and no more development resources will be applied in this area.
This latest disappointment has led to the appointment of David McTurk as interim chief operating officer but he will not be on the board. He is a former chief operating officer of Bookham Technologies. Bryan Lawrence has been appointed as business development manager.
The HalcyonPro launch was in line with the company’s expectations earlier this year but it will not have a significant effect on the 2014 figures. PhotonStar was expected to make a profit of £800,000 in 2015.
The HalcyonPro range includes lighting products for schools, offices, hotels, hospitals and homes. The systems use wireless sensors of Internet of Things to deliver the right level of light at the correct time.
The HalcyonPro system will be formally launched on 19 November 2014 at Lux Live in London and it is also up for an award at the event.
